A Kimball man was in serious condition Thursday at Hennepin County Medical Center after his vehicle crashed and started on fire, trapping him inside.
At 2:41 p.m. Wednesday, the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a single vehicle accident near Meeker County State Aid Highway 19 and 330th Street in Kingston Township near Kimball, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
The caller indicated the vehicle was on fire with a male driver still inside. When first responders arrived, they learned by-standers were able to get driver Nicholas Arens, 38, of Kimball out of the vehicle before it became fully engulfed. Arens was the lone occupant.
Kimball Fire and Rescue arrived and extinguished the fire.
Arens was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was in serious condition as of 4:30 p.m. Thursday, according to senior media relations specialist Christine Hill.
The initial investigation revealed Arens suffered a medical condition that caused the crash, according to the release.
