“While en route, officers were advised that, as a result of this crash, one driver had fled the scene on foot and another individual from another vehicle was pursuing that person,” Minneapolis Police Department spokesperson John Elder said.
When police arrived at the scene, two people involved in the crash were no longer there. Police said at some point, the two men were involved in a fight and ended up a block away on Aldrich Avenue South.
According to officers, one man was seriously hurt and was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.
Members of the Minneapolis Crime Lab searched for evidence of where the altercation occurred. Meanwhile, members of the Minneapolis Police Department Traffic Unit analyzed the crash scene.
Authorities said it appeared to be a random incident.
“There is absolutely no reason to believe that these individuals have any prior relationship,” Elder said.
Police are continuing to search for witnesses. Police questioned one person before releasing him from custody.
